A lessON BEFORE DYING
Im currently reading this book about an african man named Jefferson that was unfairly sentenced to execution. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He got caught up at the liquor store, and from the law's point of view, he killed the store owner. Jefferson didnt kill anyone though. He just went for a ride to the store with two guys going get liquor with no money. He had no idea what was going to happen. Shooting started and both his friends and the store owner was shot dead. Now the law wants him executed. I think its not fair, they dont have enough evidence that Jefferson killed anyone. This story makes me mad, because the law called Jefferson a "hog", because he was uneducated. Now miss Emma (his aunt) wants his cousin Grant (a teacher at a local church) to teach him some things before he dies. She wants him to sit in that electric chair as an educated man. not a hog. The book really has my intrest. Cant wait to read more!

Question 3 10/31/12
In the novel A Lesson Before Dying, Grant has frustration with himself throughout the story. He has a problem about making up his mind about whether or not he wants to help out Jefferson and especially Miss Emma. The whole process of making Jefferson into a “man” stresses him out because he doesn’t know if he is capable of doing that. Eventually he ends up helping them because he is a teacher at the local church, he doesn’t believe in letting people down when it comes to educating people.
Another issue he faces is the fact that he can’t get out Louisiana. He was intending to move out of the state because of the racism in the south, and because of the past life he had, he doesn’t want to be categorized as a low individual. He thinks he is better than everybody. He doesn’t move because he has to stay and help Jefferson.
